Hurricane Polo Forces Carnival Panorama to Drop Two Mexican Ports
Carnival Panorama drops Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlán calls due to Hurricane Polo, adding Ensenada; Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas also revises its West Coast itinerary.
Itinerary
- Carnival Panorama, a 4,000-passenger ship, cancelled calls at Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlán on its eight-night cruise from Long Beach departing September 26, 2026.
- Shore excursions booked through Carnival for the cancelled ports will be cancelled and fully refunded.
- Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas, sailing from Long Beach since September 25, 2026, dropped Cabo San Lucas and Ensenada and added Puerto Vallarta.
Carnival Cruise Line has cancelled calls at Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlán on the Carnival Panorama's current voyage, as Hurricane Polo tracks through the Eastern Pacific and disrupts West Coast Mexico deployments across two cruise operators.
The 4,000-passenger ship departed Long Beach on September 26, 2026, for an eight-night Mexican Riviera cruise. In a statement sent to booked guests, the line confirmed that two planned destinations had to be dropped because of the storm.
"With support from our Fleet Operations Center, we are closely monitoring Hurricane Polo in the Eastern Pacific," Carnival Cruise Line said. "Given the current forecasts, it is necessary to partially modify our itinerary to remain a safe distance from the storm."
"Regrettably, we will not be able to keep our planned visits to Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlán," the company added.
The revised routing substitutes Ensenada as a new port call before the ship heads south to La Paz and Cabo San Lucas, both of which remain on the schedule as originally planned.
For travel sellers, the operational changes carry direct commercial consequences. Carnival confirmed that shore excursions booked through the line for the cancelled ports will be automatically cancelled and fully refunded. Agents with clients on the sailing should expect questions on port substitutions and refund timing rather than itinerary reinstatement.
Carnival left the door open to further adjustments. "Because forecasts can change, we will continue to monitor the storm along the way and make further changes if necessary," the company explained.
The line framed the decision as a safety-first call. "It's always our goal to deliver our originally planned itinerary, and we are sorry that the weather is not cooperating with our plan," the statement read. "We are confident that you'll agree that it is better for us to prioritize safety."
The disruption is not confined to one operator. Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas is also sailing a revised West Coast itinerary after departing Long Beach on September 25, 2026. That ship cancelled planned visits to Cabo San Lucas and Ensenada and added a replacement call in Puerto Vallarta — a mirror-image swap that underscores how the same storm system is forcing both lines to rework their Baja and mainland Mexico port sequences.
For the Mexican Riviera market, the back-to-back revisions illustrate the exposure of short-turnaround West Coast deployments to Eastern Pacific hurricane activity in late September. Both ships continue to operate rather than cancel outright, keeping revenue sailings in motion while redistributing port calls across the region's substitute ports.
Carnival said it will update guests as the storm track evolves.
