Explora III Reaches North America Ahead of Miami, Alaska Deployments
Explora III reaches North America ahead of a PortMiami winter season and the MSC luxury brand's first Alaska program, running Vancouver-Seward from May 2027.
Itinerary
- Explora III, a 922-passenger, 72,810-ton ship delivered by Fincantieri in July 2026, arrived in North America in late September.
- The ship begins a Caribbean winter season from PortMiami on October 25, 2026, with departures from Florida, Puerto Rico and Barbados through early April 2027.
- Explora Journeys' first Alaska program runs from Vancouver and Seward between May and September 2027; three more ships join the fleet through 2028, starting with Explora IV in April 2027.
Explora Journeys' newest ship, the Explora III, arrived in North America in late September, opening a deployment sequence that takes the MSC-owned luxury brand into the Caribbean from PortMiami this fall and into Alaska for the first time in summer 2027.
The 72,810-ton, 922-passenger vessel entered service earlier this year and spent its first months in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe before crossing the Atlantic. Fincantieri delivered the ship in July 2026, making it the third vessel in the Explora Journeys fleet.
The arrival gives travel sellers a widening Explora inventory to package across distinct regions. The ship's first North American sailing was an 11-night itinerary from Reykjavik to Quebec City, calling at Corner Brook, Saguenay, Havre Saint Pierre and Newport. Explora Journeys also sold the crossing as part of a combination product — the "Grand Journey of Stunning Boreal Scenery and Northern Cultural Heritage" — a 30-night voyage between Hamburg and New York City covering 20 destinations across Germany, the United States, Ireland, England, Iceland and Canada.
Before repositioning south, the Explora III is sailing a series of Canada and New England itineraries with calls that include Halifax, Charlottetown and Portland — an autumn program that competes directly for the same premium fall-foliage business targeted by Viking, Azamara and the luxury divisions of the larger cruise groups.
The revenue-relevant shift comes October 25, 2026, when the ship arrives at PortMiami to begin a winter Caribbean season running through early April 2027. Deployments depart from Florida, Puerto Rico and Barbados, giving agents a three-gateway structure that broadens the customer base for the brand beyond its Mediterranean strong suit — including drive-market Miami customers and long-haul Caribbean cruisers embarking in San Juan and Bridgetown.
The bigger strategic marker follows: after the Caribbean season, the Explora III repositions to the West Coast for Explora Journeys' first Alaska program. Itineraries run between Vancouver and Seward from May through September 2027, placing the MSC luxury brand in a premium Alaska market where Seabourn, Regent, Silversea and Viking already compete for high-yield berths.
For sellers, the Alaska entry adds a new premium option in a segment where late-summer departures typically command the season's highest fares, and it extends the brand's booking window into a second consecutive peak season in the Americas.
The pipeline matters as much as the deployment. Explora Journeys plans to add three more ships through 2028, starting with the Explora IV in April 2027. That buildout will continue to expand the brand's capacity in luxury cruise, a segment where operators have been competing on new hardware and destination mix to justify premium pricing.
With the Explora III now cycling through Canada and New England, the Caribbean and Alaska within a single year, the brand is concentrating inventory in the Americas at a pace that agents and tour operators selling upscale cruising will need to track closely through the 2027 booking cycle.
