Norwegian Cruise Line will reveal its sixth and final Prima-class ship on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 9:15 a.m. Eastern. The announcement, teased on the line's social media channels, closes out a six-ship program that started with the Norwegian Prima in 2022 and has run entirely through Italy's Fincantieri shipyard.
In the teaser, Norwegian called the newbuild the "grand finale" of the class, describing it as "beautifully imagined" with passengers in mind. Marketing language aside, the ship gives the line one more 3,880-guest, 170,000-ton vessel to place in its highest-yielding deployment slots.
What do we know about the final ship?
According to Cruise Industry News's global orderbook, Fincantieri will deliver the last Prima-class vessel in 2028. It will mirror the Norwegian Aura, the 2027 ship currently under construction at Fincantieri's Marghera yard:
- 170,000 gross tons, roughly ten percent larger than the earlier Primas
- 3,880 guests at double occupancy
- Largest ships in Norwegian's fleet once they enter service
- Aura delivers in the second quarter of 2027; the final ship follows in 2028
For sellers of travel, each Prima-class debut has meant new inventory to package — and a fresh wave of inaugural-season pricing power. The pattern has held since Prima arrived in 2022.
The class so far includes the Norwegian Prima (2022), Norwegian Viva (2023), Norwegian Aqua (2025) and the Norwegian Luna, which started its maiden season from PortMiami in late March. The takeaway: the 2026 reveal is the last chance to sell a Prima-class launch before the series ends.
Where does the Aura fit in?
The Norwegian Aura enters service in the Mediterranean in 2027, then repositions to PortMiami in late May. From its South Florida homeport, it will run a series of seven-night Caribbean cruises as part of its inaugural season.
That deployment matters for distribution. Miami gives the Aura access to the largest cruise passenger base in North America, and European itineraries before the crossing let the line sell the same hull into two source markets in a single year.
In short: the Aura tests the upsized Prima formula in two regions before the final ship arrives in 2028.
What comes after the Prima class?
Beyond the two remaining Primas, Norwegian is working on an entirely new design with Fincantieri. The first of these ships debuts in 2030 at 227,000 tons, placing it among the largest cruise vessels in the world.
That's a jump of about a third in size over the Aura-class hulls, and it signals where Norwegian sees demand heading: bigger ships, more onboard revenue per sailing, and deployment concentrated in ports that can handle them.
For agents and tour operators, the 2030 ship opens a longer planning horizon. In short: October 20, 2026 closes the Prima chapter, but the real capacity story starts four years later.
