Holland America Back in Acapulco After 17 Years as Cruise Lines Return
Holland America's Eurodam called at Acapulco with 2,039 guests, ending a 17-year absence, as Carnival and Norwegian also add calls to the Mexican Pacific port.

Itinerary
- Holland America returned to Acapulco after 17 years with the Eurodam, carrying 2,039 guests and 874 crew.
- Carnival ended a 15-year Acapulco hiatus in late 2025 with the Carnival Legend and has two Carnival Firenze calls set for October and November.
- Norwegian Cruise Line is calling at Acapulco this year with the Norwegian Star and Norwegian Bliss.
- The Eurodam arrived on a 16-night repositioning cruise from San Diego to Fort Lauderdale.
- Acapulco Cruise Port (GPH) coordinated logistics for the 86,273-ton vessel's visit.
Holland America Line returned to Acapulco for the first time in 17 years, with the 86,273-ton Eurodam calling at the Pacific port carrying 2,039 guests and 874 crew, according to port authority ASIPONA Acapulco (Administración del Sistema Portuario Nacional Acapulco).
The call is not an isolated event. Carnival Cruise Line ended its own 15-year absence from Acapulco in late 2025 with an unplanned call by the Carnival Legend, forced by a weather-driven itinerary change. Carnival has since committed two more calls this year with the Carnival Firenze, scheduled for October and November. Norwegian Cruise Line is also calling with two ships, the Norwegian Star and the Norwegian Bliss.
What happened at the inaugural call?
ASIPONA Acapulco marked the Eurodam's visit with a welcome event and plaque exchange ceremony onboard. Mexican government officials attended, including Briseida Rodríguez Bustamante, ASIPONA Acapulco's operations and engineering manager, and Raymundo Sánchez López, general manager of ports administration. Captain Jeroen van Donselaar and ship officers received the delegation on the bridge.
The port authority framed the ceremony as a step toward a closer partnership with Holland America. Acapulco Cruise Port, operated by Global Ports Holding (GPH), coordinated logistics for the vessel's visit — a detail that matters for sellers watching which terminal operator now controls turnaround and calls at the port.
"The arrival of the Eurodam cruise ship is a vote of confidence in Acapulco as a tourist destination, while also reaffirming its historical importance among navigation routes in the Mexican Pacific," ASIPONA Acapulco said.
Which itineraries carry the port?
The Eurodam arrived on a repositioning positioning pattern familiar to trade sellers. The ship completed a summer season in Alaska and British Columbia, then sailed a 16-night voyage from San Diego to Fort Lauderdale with calls in Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Aruba.
For agents, that routing places Acapulco back on Mexico's Pacific coast repositioning inventory after nearly two decades of absence. Holland America last called in 2008.
What does the return mean for distribution?
Three Carnival Corporation-linked brands and Norwegian now touch the port within a single calendar window, a concentration that shifts Acapulco from occasional weather-substitute stop to scheduled call. The Carnival Legend's visit began as an unscheduled diversion; the follow-on Carnival Firenze calls for October and November convert that accident into committed deployment.
The pattern gives shore excursion operators, transfer providers and DMO (destination marketing organization) partners in Acapulco a resumed base of cruise passengers to sell against, sized at roughly 2,000 guests per Holland America call.
GPH's coordination role also signals the terminal operator's grip on cruise logistics at the port, relevant to lines weighing future calls.
Whether the 2025-2026 calls harden into repeated seasonal deployment will depend on how the repositioning itineraries perform, and on whether the port authority converts its stated closer ties with Holland America into a published schedule of future calls.
