Itinerary

  1. L'Austral made its maiden call at the Port of Baltimore on October 13, 2026.
  2. The 260-passenger vessel ended a seven-night U.S. 250th anniversary sailing that started in Halifax.
  3. The ship begins a ten-night trans-Canal cruise from Colón to Callao later this month.
  4. L'Austral starts its 2026-27 Antarctica season in late November.
  5. AIDAdiva makes a transit call in Baltimore in late October on a 12-night U.S. and Canada itinerary.

Ponant Explorations' L'Austral called at the Port of Baltimore for the first time on October 13, 2026, marking the French luxury operator's entry into Maryland's cruise calendar.

The 260-passenger expedition vessel arrived at the close of a commemorative seven-night sailing built around America's 250th anniversary. Cruise Industry News reported the voyage started in Halifax and ended in Maryland, with prior East Coast calls in Boston, Newport, New York City and Philadelphia.

What happened at the welcome ceremony?

Cruise Maryland said local authorities and ship officers held a ceremony onboard to mark the inaugural visit. Maryland Port Administration Interim Executive Director Samantha Biddle presented Captain Nicolas Jouslin de Noray with an engraved ship's wheel.

The sailing was designed to take a broad approach to U.S. history, honoring the contributions of all those who shaped it. Martin Luther King III and his wife, Arndrea Waters King, joined earlier in the voyage for discussions on American history, civil rights and the King family legacy.

For Baltimore, the call adds a luxury expedition brand to a port better known for mass-market homeporting. That is a modest but real diversification of the customer mix arriving in Maryland.

Where does L'Austral go next?

The ship departed Maryland with no guests and is scheduled to operate a trans-Canal cruise from Panama later this month: a ten-night itinerary from Colón to Callao, the port near Lima, Peru.

Further cruises to Chile and Argentina follow, before the vessel reaches Antarctica in late November to open its 2026-27 season there.

What else is on Baltimore's schedule?

Beyond regular visits from homeporting Royal Caribbean and Carnival ships, Baltimore will welcome AIDA Cruises' AIDAdiva for a transit call in late October. The German-market vessel calls as part of a 12-night itinerary to destinations in the United States and Canada.

The AIDAdiva call signals Baltimore's pull with European source markets, not just domestic drive-to traffic.

The port's autumn program now spans three international brands across luxury, expedition and German mass-market segments.
