Cordelia Cruises will debut its 2,000-guest Cordelia Sky in India on October 23, 2026, after completing a Yalova, Turkey drydock that has consumed more than 30,000 liters of paint and mobilized roughly 300 crew members.

The vessel, originally built in 1999 for Norwegian Cruise Line, will reposition to Mumbai as a no-guest voyage before launching a series of short Indian cruises, Cordelia said.

What is the Cordelia Sky?

The 77,000-ton ship is the largest vessel Cordelia has introduced to the Indian market. Cordelia said the Sky was previously operated by Norwegian Cruise Line before transferring to the Indian operator for service.

Drydock work covers technical maintenance, general cleaning, and a livery change. While the ship is out of service, one engine is generating approximately 3,600 kW of energy, Cordelia said. The Sky will start more engines to begin its repositioning voyage to Mumbai.

What does the hardware look like?

Cordelia disclosed the following technical figures for the Sky:

  • 1,834 doors and 835 exterior windows across the vessel
  • Three anchors, each weighing approximately 9.7 tons — a weight Cordelia equated to two elephants
  • More than 1,300 kilometers of electrical cabling — a length the company said matches the Delhi-to-Mumbai distance
  • Six engines rated at 69,000 horsepower in normal operations, with 80 percent of output going to the propulsion system

Cordelia noted that 8,000 liters of paint are required for just one coat of the hull. With more than 30,000 liters total being applied, the drydock is delivering multiple coats across the vessel's exterior.

What itineraries will travel sellers book?

Cordelia's inaugural Indian season will feature short cruises to Goa and Lakshadweep. From August 2027, the Sky will operate longer itineraries sailing from Chennai and Singapore to Southeast Asia destinations.

The Singapore and Chennai departures are Cordelia's first published homeport plans outside India for the vessel.

What does the launch mean for sellers of travel?

The October 23, 2026 debut sets a hard deadline for Indian travel agents, online platforms, and corporate bookers to onboard Cordelia Sky inventory before the first revenue sailing. The 2,000-guest capacity gives domestic sellers a mass-market cruise product to package with pre- and post-cruise hotel and ground stays.

Cordelia has not disclosed pricing, cabin configuration, or distribution structure — including whether the ship will be sold agent-direct, through OTAs, or via charter partners. Travel sellers awaiting the operator's commercial terms will see them only after the Mumbai arrival.

The August 2027 launch of Singapore and Chennai departures opens a Southeast Asia distribution lane, giving Indian outbound agents a closer-to-home embarkation point for cruises to Southeast Asia. Singapore-based trade partners will also gain access to a new domestic product with Indian-source itineraries.

The Sky's transfer from Norwegian Cruise Line to Cordelia is one data point for sellers tracking second-hand cruise tonnage flows into Asia. The vessel's age — built in 1999 — signals the depth of the resale market.

The repositioning voyage to Mumbai will run before the inaugural booking window opens at scale. How Cordelia converts the drydock's visibility into Indian cruise bookings is the next read for the country's ocean distribution.
