Cordelia Cruises Readies Ex-NCL Ship for October 23 India Debut
Cordelia Cruises debuts the 2,000-guest Cordelia Sky on October 23 for short Goa and Lakshadweep sailings, with longer Chennai–Singapore routes starting August 2027.

Itinerary
- Cordelia Sky, a former Norwegian Cruise Line ship, enters service October 23 after drydock maintenance, cleaning and repainting.
- The 77,000-ton, 2,000-guest vessel carries more than 1,300 kilometers of electrical cabling.
- Short itineraries to Goa and Lakshadweep come first; longer sailings from Chennai and Singapore begin in August 2027.
Cordelia Cruises will put a 2,000-guest former Norwegian Cruise Line vessel into service on October 23, following a drydock program covering maintenance, cleaning and repainting that the operator says delivers a refreshed ship rather than a straight fleet transfer.
The ship, renamed Cordelia Sky, is a 77,000-ton vessel that carries more than 1,300 kilometers of electrical cabling running its public spaces and staterooms. Cordelia disclosed the technical statistics as the ship prepares for its India debut — a signal that the operator wants the market to read this as a substantive refurbishment, not a second-hand handoff dressed up with a new name.
For sellers of travel, the deployment plan matters more than the paint job. Cordelia is positioning the same ship across two distinct itinerary tiers. First come short sailings centered on Goa and Lakshadweep, products aimed at the weekend-break segment that competes directly with short-haul air travel. Then, beginning in August 2027, the ship will operate longer routes from Chennai and Singapore into Southeast Asia.
That sequencing gives agents and distributors a single-brand upsell path. A customer who books a short domestic sailing this year can graduate to a longer international itinerary in 2027 without switching cruise lines — a route-loyalty structure designed to lift repeat booking rates and customer lifetime value in a market where cruise penetration remains low.
The economics of the move follow a pattern other operators have used to enter high-growth regional markets: acquire a second-life vessel, invest in drydock upgrades, and deploy it against localized demand. For India, that demand sits in compact, accessible itineraries priced against land-based and air alternatives — Goa and Lakshadweep fit the brief — with the longer Southeast Asia product built on top of the customer base those short sailings create.
The refurbishment also points to demand further upstream. Large-scale rewiring, repainting and technical refit work of this scale feeds the marine engineering and ship services sector, as operators across the industry extend vessel lifecycles rather than order new tonnage for emerging markets.
Cordelia's claims about the refit come from the operator itself; no independent figures on refit cost or booking volumes accompanied the announcement. The measure that will count for distributors is fill rates on the October debut season and whether the short-itinerary customer base converts into the 2027 Chennai–Singapore sailings as planned.
