Atlas Ocean Voyages will run 25 Antarctica expeditions between October 2028 and March 2029, doubling the Fly & Sail product count from two to four voyages and adding capacity for agents selling the premium polar segment.
The 2028–29 program, announced Feb. 5, expands the operator's three-tier Drake Passage lineup and layers in two deep-southern expeditions, including an 18-night Grand Antarctica voyage that combines the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands.
James A. Rodriguez, president and chief executive officer of Atlas Ocean Voyages, framed the season in experiential terms: "Antarctica has a remarkable ability to change the way you see the world. Its vast landscapes, extraordinary wildlife and profound sense of remoteness inspire a perspective that stays with you long after the journey ends."
He added that the new lineup "offers guests more ways to experience this transformative destination, while preserving what defines an Atlas Polar Expedition: intimate exploration, expert-led discovery and highly personalized service aboard our yachts."
How are the three Drake Passage products priced and positioned?
Atlas has organized the Drake crossing into three bookable formats, each on a different time and cost curve:
- Drake Fly & Sail: Four nine-night expeditions combine a one-way sea crossing with a private charter flight over the other leg.
- Drake Express: Two seven-night expeditions fly both directions, freeing up six full days on the Antarctic Peninsula.
- Antarctic Discovery: Nine-night voyages sail roundtrip across the Drake, preserving the classic embarkation arc.
What sits beyond the Peninsula?
Two expedition tiers push deeper south and extend the selling season:
- Two 12-night Crossing the Antarctic Circle expeditions cross south of 66°33′ S, with seven expedition days.
- One 18-night Grand Antarctica expedition departs Jan. 7, 2029, blending the Peninsula with South Georgia and the Falklands.
Atlas will also commemorate the 100th anniversary of Sir Hubert Wilkins and Carl Ben Eielson's Nov. 16, 1928 pioneering flight from Deception Island with a coinciding Antarctic Discovery departure on Nov. 16, 2028.
What does this mean for agents on commission?
The doubling of Fly & Sail is the most commercially significant change, since charter-flight components typically command the highest per-night yields in Antarctic product mix and historically sell out first.
- Fly & Sail count: 2 (2027–28) → 4 (2028–29)
- Total expedition count: 25
- Window beyond the Peninsula: 3 departures
Holiday-timed inventory is also a distribution lever: select sailings cover Thanksgiving, New Year's and Valentine's Day.
What are the launch incentives and pricing windows?
Atlas is offering up to 10 percent Bonus Savings plus a complimentary Explorer's Choice menu that includes:
- Up to $2,000 in air savings per suite
- A one-night hotel package
- Enhanced unlimited Wi-Fi
Guests who book by Dec. 31, 2026, lock in current published fares; new pricing takes effect Jan. 1, 2027.
The seven-month advance booking window, combined with bundled air savings, gives retail advisors a clear urgency hook ahead of the operator's January 2027 repricing.
