Adora Cruises took delivery of its third ship, the 141,900-gross-ton Adora Flora City, at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Yard on November 6, adding 5,232 berths of capacity to the Chinese cruise market.

The handover marks the second vessel Adora has built in China, after the Adora Magic City. The line's first ship, the Adora Mediterranea, joined the fleet earlier. Adora now operates three vessels in a market where domestic-built tonnage is becoming the core of capacity strategy.

At 341 meters long, the Flora City carries 2,130 cabins and suites and accommodates 5,232 guests at full occupancy. Those are the numbers that matter for sellers: each sailing from Guangzhou Nansha adds roughly 5,000 passengers of bookable inventory to South China's cruise distribution.

What happens next?

The schedule is tight. The ship repositions from the shipyard to Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal on November 7, then undertakes a first trial voyage two days later. It arrives at its homeport of Guangzhou on November 12.

The five-night maiden voyage departs Guangzhou Nansha International Cruise Home Port on November 22, calling at Hong Kong and Chan May, Vietnam. The christening takes place the same day, with Olympic diving champion Guo Jingjing serving as godmother.

Adora framed the delivery as part of a broader capacity plan. "With the delivery and upcoming entry into service of Adora Flora City, Adora Cruises will continue to expand its fleet, optimize capacity deployment and elevate the guest experience to better meet growing demand for high-quality travel among Chinese consumers," the company said.

On operational readiness, the line was more cautious than promotional. "Drawing on our extensive operating experience, we will steadily advance the remaining preparations to ensure Adora Flora City enters service in optimal condition," Adora said — a statement of work still to be done, not a measured result.

What is the itinerary mix?

The inaugural season runs on short regional sailings with one long-haul exception:

  • Four- and five-night cruises to Hong Kong and Vietnam
  • An overnight Hong Kong sailing
  • An eight-night itinerary calling in Vietnam, Malaysia and Brunei
  • A 16-night voyage across six Southeast Asian countries — Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam — a first for the company

The 16-night sailing is the notable distribution shift. It extends Adora's product beyond the short-break model that dominates Chinese cruising and puts the line into direct competition with regional operators selling longer Southeast Asian itineraries.

Hong Kong also becomes a second deployment base. The Flora City will run nearly 20 cruises from the city across three windows: late March to early May, late June to late July, and late October to early November. That gives Hong Kong-based agents and operators a substantially larger domestic-departure inventory to sell across 2025 and into 2026.

For travel sellers, the concrete opportunity is a new homeported ship in Guangzhou, a near-doubling of Hong Kong departures, and a first-ever 16-night regional product. How the market absorbs that capacity will show in load factors once the maiden season reports.

The first read comes November 22, when the Flora City sails from Nansha with Guo Jingjing as godmother.
