Uniworld Adds Three Ships in 2027 en Route to a 22-Vessel Fleet
Uniworld calls its 2027-2028 buildout its biggest investment period yet: six new ships, 22 vessels total, new land programs — but no dollar figures or dates beyond river assignments.

Itinerary
- Uniworld adds three ships in 2027 — its largest fleet expansion to date — completing an all–Super Ship fleet.
- Three more ships follow in 2028, bringing the fleet to 22 vessels.
- The 2027 launches: the Audrey, the Marlene and the São Rafael on the Douro, plus the Aqua Blu expedition yacht with just two sailings.
- Six new itineraries and new land programs in Paris, Prague and Zurich accompany the buildout.
- Core source markets remain North America, the U.K. and Australia, with Gen X flagged as the fastest-growing segment.
Uniworld Boutique River Cruises will add three new ships in 2027, its largest fleet expansion to date, and complete the shift to an all–Super Ship fleet. By 2028, the count reaches 22 vessels — roughly a 16% jump from today's 19, delivered in just two years.
CEO Ellen Bettridge laid out the timeline in an interview for the 2027 European River Market Report. The buildout started with the Emilie in 2026, Uniworld's first newbuild since 2020. That six-year gap matters: it means the current wave is catch-up capacity, not a steady-state growth curve.
What's actually launching?
- 2027: the Audrey and the Marlene on European rivers, with interiors inspired by Audrey Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich and what Bettridge called "cinematic glamour," plus the São Rafael on Portugal's Douro — one of Uniworld's strongest-performing destinations.
- 2027: the Aqua Blu, an expedition yacht run with Aqua Expeditions, offering just two sailings with access to Indonesia and Singapore.
- 2028: the Helen on the Danube, the Clara on the Rhine and the Mekong Mystique in Southeast Asia.
"Paired with our 2027 expansion, this represents one of the most significant periods of investment in Uniworld's history," Bettridge said. Note the framing: "one of" the most significant, not the largest by spend — no dollar figures were disclosed.
In short: six new vessels across 2027-2028, concentrated in Europe with a Southeast Asia hedge. The takeaway is more berths in Uniworld's core rivers right as river cruising competes harder for high-yield guests.
What else changes for sellers?
Uniworld is adding six new itineraries across Europe and Asia and extending pre- and post-cruise land programs in Paris, Prague and Zurich — more commissionable product attached to each sailing. The Women-Only Cruise, launched in 2025, returns in 2027 after what amounts to a one-year gap, so advisors with clients from the inaugural edition have a natural rebooking conversation.
Bettridge positioned the product against fleet-wide standardization. "Each ship is a one-of-a-kind floating boutique hotel, inspired by the destinations it sails through," she said. "Rather than creating a standardized experience across our fleet, each ship has its own personality and sense of place." That's a pitch, not a measurable — but it signals Uniworld will keep defending rate via differentiation rather than scale.
Who's booking?
Baby Boomers remain the river market's core, but Bettridge flagged strong growth among Gen X travelers. "Gen X travelers often seek more active, hands-on experiences," she said, so Uniworld has expanded excursions to include biking, hiking, culinary workshops and wine tastings alongside traditional guided tours.
Family-focused Generations Collection sailings timed to school breaks are drawing strong interest, she added, and themed cruises around wine, golf, music and Jewish heritage keep multiplying. North America, the U.K. and Australia remain the core source markets — no emerging-market pivot here.
The demographic claim comes without percentages, so treat "strong growth" as directional. Still, more active excursions and family timing point at where Uniworld expects the next incremental booking to come from.
What's missing from the announcement: pricing strategy, deployment dates beyond river assignments, and any occupancy data from the Emilie's first season. How the 2027 trio actually sells will depend on those numbers, not the interior design brief.
