TikTok Go Compresses Booking Into One App: 81% Won't Return After Bad Digital Trips
TikTok Go puts hotel and attraction booking inside the app. Quantum Metric's Danielle Harvey: treat it as acquisition, win repeat direct bookings on owned channels.

- TikTok Go allows users to book hotels, attractions and experiences without leaving the app
- Quantum Metric data: travel purchases typically take around six visits before completion
- Customers arriving via AI search are two times more likely to abandon on reaching a brand's site
- 81 percent of customers say they would not return after a poor digital experience
- Danielle Harvey advises treating TikTok Go as top-of-funnel acquisition, not a relationship channel
Travel purchases take around six visits before a customer converts — and TikTok Go is betting it can collapse that entire journey into a single app. For hotels, attractions and experience sellers, the feature shifts discovery, research and booking onto a platform they don't control, with direct consequences for how they acquire guests and where the relationship lives.
TikTok Go lets users discover, research and book hotels, attractions and experiences without leaving the app, compressing what has historically been a long, multi-platform process into a few taps. Danielle Harvey, VP of Industries for Partnerships and Emerging Products at analytics firm Quantum Metric, laid out the distribution stakes in an interview with CX Today.
"Discovery is really increasingly happening outside of brand-owned channels," Harvey said. "When you think about what a brand actually owns and can connect, they don't have a lot of control over a lot of that."
What does TikTok Go change for sellers?
The core problem, according to Harvey, is fragmentation: every handoff between platforms is a potential breakage point where data does not carry over and customers restart from scratch. TikTok Go removes those handoffs — which means it also removes the points where brands could re-capture the customer.
Quantum Metric's own data quantifies the risk. Customers arriving via AI search are two times more likely to abandon once they reach a brand's site, a signal that traffic generated by new discovery channels converts worse than brands assume.
Harvey cautioned against treating speed itself as the goal in a high-consideration category like travel.
"The goal really shouldn't be removing every step from that process," she said. "It should be about removing unnecessary friction and preserving the confidence and trust that's really necessary, especially in this industry."
Where should TikTok Go sit in the channel mix?
Harvey's positioning is blunt: acquisition, not relationship. "Brands that handle it well will treat TikTok Go as a top-of-funnel acquisition channel, but not the relationship channel," she said. "Use it to acquire a guest, but then invest in the post-booking and on-property experiences to really build that direct relationship."
That framing carries a revenue logic. Brands that win, she argued, will earn repeat direct bookings by delivering enough value in the experience itself — capturing margin on the next transaction rather than paying for acquisition again.
"You still own the most important part of all of this, the actual trip," Harvey said. "If you can provide an exceptional enough experience, you can earn their direct business the next time."
The margin for error on those owned touchpoints is thin. Quantum Metric research shows 81 percent of customers say they would not return after a poor digital experience — meaning a botched post-booking flow or on-property digital interaction can erase the acquisition investment entirely.
For travel brands weighing TikTok Go, the working model emerging from Harvey's analysis is straightforward: accept the platform as a lower-intent, higher-abandonment acquisition source, and budget for conversion of those guests into direct bookers through owned channels after the first trip.
