Itinerary

  1. Tauck opened bookings for its 2028 European river-cruise collection, including three new Rhone itineraries from six to 14 days.
  2. The ms Harmonie will join the ms Lumiere, doubling Tauck’s guest capacity on the Rhone.
  3. Tauck targets a more-than-50% increase in river-cruise guest capacity versus 2025 levels by 2028.
  4. Five Wellness Departures are confirmed for 2028, following two aboard the Serene in 2027.
  5. A new 11-day Rhine route starts with three nights at Lugano’s Hotel Splendide Royal.

Tauck has opened bookings for its 2028 European river-cruise collection, adding three Rhone itineraries of six to 14 days and a second ship that doubles the line’s guest capacity on the river.

The ms Harmonie will join the ms Lumiere in 2028. Tauck attributes the launch to strong early demand, though the announcement gives no booking total, rate or sell-through figure.

Tauck CEO Jennifer Tombaugh said: “The Rhone has a way of drawing people in, and we’ve been hearing from guests and advisors that they want more ways to experience it.” The comment identifies advisor interest, not its size.

What does the capacity expansion change?

Tauck says the Harmonie and Lumiere are part of a multi-year expansion that will “increase Tauck’s river cruise guest capacity by more than 50% over 2025 levels by 2028.” That is a forward target, not a measured result. Tauck supplies no filing, revenue forecast or market-size comparison to test it.

For advisors and other travel sellers, doubling Rhone capacity expands the inventory they can sell through their channels. It does not establish higher sales or market share on its own; those depend on bookings, cabin occupancy and pricing.

Capacity is not revenue. Worth remembering.

Tauck says the 2028 collection is fully inclusive. Tauck Directors (Tauck personnel providing destination expertise) and local guides will support guests’ destination experiences. For sellers, that gives them one packaged itinerary to quote, although Tauck does not itemize inclusions, component costs or package margins.

How is Tauck widening its product mix?

Tauck has confirmed five Wellness Departures for 2028 across a broader range of itineraries, following the first two departures aboard the Serene in 2027. For advisors, the named sailings create a specific wellness product to sell, although the release gives no booking levels, pricing or program inclusions.

Which new Rhone itineraries are now on sale?

  • “Essence of the Rhone” runs six days aboard the new ms Harmonie between Lyon and Arles. It sails in both directions; the cruise-only product travels one way and can be combined with a pre- or post-tour stay on the Mediterranean. Highlights include Lyon’s Old Town, Viviers, Arles, and regional food and wine traditions.

  • “A Week On… the Rhone” lasts eight days, including a five-night cruise aboard the Lumiere between Lyon and Arles. Guided sightseeing in Avignon and a Camargue visit anchor the trip. In Tain-l’Hermitage, guests can make chocolate truffles with Valrhona or take an active rail-bike excursion through the countryside.

  • “Barcelona, Burgundy & the Rhone” combines a three-night Barcelona hotel stay with nine nights on the river, for 14 days total. The cruise runs in both directions between Barcelona and Lyon and visits five wine regions. It also includes Château de Cormatin, vineyard cycling, and guided sightseeing in Lyon and Provence.

The six-day option gives advisors a shorter booking proposition. The Mediterranean extension and Barcelona hotel segment create additional pre- or post-cruise selling points, potentially increasing each sale’s scope. Neither guarantees more revenue: Tauck publishes no itinerary prices, package margins or distribution split.

What is new beyond the Rhone?

Tauck is also introducing “Rhine Enchantment, Italian Lakes to Amsterdam” on select 2028 departures, building on “Rhine Enchantment, Milan to Amsterdam.” The new 11-day itinerary begins with three nights at the lakeside Hotel Splendide Royal in Lugano, Switzerland.

That gives European-river sellers another route for packaging a stay with a river cruise. It may also compete for the same client budgets and advisor attention as the Rhone launches; Tauck does not say how it expects demand to split between them.

Tauck’s 2028 collection now offers more seats, more itinerary lengths and more ways to attach stays to a cruise. The commercial test comes later: prices, bookings and realized cabin occupancy will show whether added capacity becomes revenue rather than simply available inventory.
