Itinerary

  1. NCL Chief Sales Officer John Chernesky departs effective Dec. 31, 2026.
  2. Chernesky joined NCL in 2022 after 20+ years at Princess Cruises and a stint at Holland America Line.
  3. Brennan Quesnele, SVP Strategic Accounts and Trade Marketing, takes interim responsibility for North America Sales.
  4. John Chidsey became NCLH President and CEO in February 2026; Marc Kazlauskas became NCL President in January 2026.
  5. Chernesky addressed agents at the April 2025 christening of Norwegian Aqua, NCL's 20th vessel.

Norwegian Cruise Line's Chief Sales Officer, John Chernesky, leaves the company effective Dec. 31, closing a four-year run that placed a longtime trade advocate at the top of the brand's distribution organization.

NCL confirmed the departure in a statement. "John Chernesky will be departing the company effective Dec. 31, 2026. We thank John for his leadership and contributions over the past three and a half years as Norwegian Cruise Line's Chief Sales Officer and wish him all the best," the company said.

Chernesky joined NCL in 2022 as VP, North America Sales, after more than two decades at Princess Cruises and a stint at Holland America Line. His promotion to Chief Sales Officer put a career trade seller in charge of the channel that moves the bulk of NCL's bookings through travel advisors (the retail agents who sell cruises on commission).

His exit removes a familiar face for the agency community at a moment of broad leadership turnover across NCL and its parent, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings. The changes at the top include:

  • John Chidsey became NCLH President and CEO in February 2026, tasked with leading the parent company "through meaningful transformation with a focus on operational rigour and accountability."
  • Marc Kazlauskas took the NCL president's job in January 2026.
  • Chernesky's Dec. 31 departure now opens the third senior seat to change hands inside roughly a year.

Who runs North America sales now?

Brennan Quesnele, SVP of Strategic Accounts and Trade Marketing, assumes interim responsibility for North America Sales while the company searches for a successor. For travel sellers, the immediate question is account continuity: Quesnele already manages strategic accounts and trade marketing, so the advisory-facing structure stays inside existing hands rather than passing to an outside interim.

NCL moved to reassure the trade. "We remain fully committed to our travel partners and to providing the support, resources and partnership they need to succeed," the company said.

What did Chernesky mean for advisors?

Chernesky positioned himself as a retail loyalist throughout his tenure, and his public messaging to agents was unusually direct. "We're incredibly proud of our ongoing work with each of you. Our goal is to be the best brand you ever worked with, to be the easiest and the most open for collaboration," he told agents during the April 2025 christening sailing for Norwegian Aqua, NCL's 20th vessel.

That advisor-first framing mattered commercially. Cruise lines depend on travel advisors for the majority of bookings, and the chief sales officer sets commission structures, account assignments and trade support programs — the mechanics that determine which brand an agent pushes first.

What comes next?

The succession search begins with no named candidates. Whoever takes the role inherits a sales organization mid-transformation, reporting up through a Kazlauskas-led NCL and a Chidsey-led NCLH that has explicitly flagged operational rigour as its priority — a signal sellers will read as pressure on trade spend and account economics even as the company pledges uninterrupted partner support.
