Marella Cruises will add four venues to Marella Discovery 2 by early 2027, three of them paid add-ons with charges from £14.95 to £19.95. The fourth, The Loft, stays within the all-inclusive fare as the ship becomes adults-only.

Marella says the rollout converts former kids’ spaces into ship-specific entertainment. That gives the operator a new ancillary-revenue layer (income earned beyond the cruise fare) and sharpens its adults-only proposition. The announcement offers no bookings, occupancy forecasts or revenue projections, so the company’s strong-demand claim remains a pitch rather than a measured result.

What changes when Discovery 2 becomes adults-only?

Marella announced the ship’s transition to adults-only in June. It now says the former children’s areas will become venues exclusive to Discovery 2 and available to guests by early 2027.

CEO Chris Hackney tied the investment to strong customer demand for adults-only cruising. He said: “We’ve looked closely at what guests love across our ships, as well as wider consumer trends around relaxation, social connection, immersive entertainment and creative wellbeing, to create four distinctive new venues that will appeal to our loyal customers and those new to cruise alike.”

He added: “Whether that’s sipping cocktails in a secret speakeasy, belting out a favorite song with friends or picking up a paintbrush on a sea day, these venues give guests more ways to make their holiday their own.”

Which concepts can guests book?

  • Amplify Karaoke: Marella’s first dedicated karaoke venue is a private lounge for up to seven guests, booked by the hour. Guests can choose from thousands of songs. Advance booking starts at £14.95 per room per hour.

  • The Lost Luggage Bureau: Inspired by the Exchange on Marella Voyager and the Golden Age of Travel, this speakeasy hides behind a faux lost-property office. Its 90-minute show combines live music, live actors and storytelling around the mysterious contents of luggage that was never claimed.

    • Stories and price: Guests choose The Case in Question or Smugglers Society, and each show welcomes up to 42 guests. Three signature cocktails form part of the story. Advance booking costs £19.95 per person, including the cocktails.
  • Red Handed: This escape room is staged backstage at the fictional Cabaret Rouge in the 1920s. Teams of up to six have 60 minutes to steal Lady Ruby Bardot’s diamond necklace before they get caught red-handed.

    • Puzzles and price: Seven logic puzzles run through two themed dressing rooms, one a secret room guests must find. An in-character host can offer clues over a vintage telephone. Advance booking costs £16.95 per person.
  • The Loft: This calm, 24-hour space combines a library, board games and hosted arts and crafts. It requires no booking and carries no extra charge.

    • Crafts Ahoy: Port days receive one hosted session; sea days receive two. They cover jewelry making, macramé, watercolor painting, sketching, button art and quilling.
  • At up to 42 guests, a Lost Luggage show admits six times Amplify’s maximum party of seven. The announcement provides no venue-usage data, so that capacity offers more potential sales, not proof of stronger demand.

What does the redesign mean for travel sellers?

For advisers, Discovery 2 now offers a concrete adults-only story: private entertainment, communal activities and an included retreat, all available without leaving the ship. The paid concepts create opportunities to raise the onboard value of a booking, while the free Loft and updated climbing wall support the fare rather than generate separate charges.

The distribution question remains unresolved. The announcement does not say whether venue reservations sit inside the cruise booking or remain a separate guest purchase, and it identifies no commission treatment, meaning no seller fee is disclosed. Advisers can pitch the add-ons, but they cannot yet model the booking flow or forecast ancillary income.

Marella’s ability to take share of adults-only cruising rests on execution, not the announcement alone. The announcement gives no ship passenger count, target utilization, revenue-per-guest estimate or precise sailing schedule.

It also supplies no filing or market-size benchmark against which to test the demand claim. Fare enough: Marella has put prices on three concepts. Whether travelers will pay is the part still outstanding.

The ship’s all-inclusive climbing wall will also gain more hold sizes, reflecting the variety at modern climbing centers and Olympic-standard walls. The update improves the included amenity, but it does not add another paid conversion opportunity.

Early 2027 will bring the test: pre-bookings should reveal which concepts guests value. Whether adults-only repositioning produces more than four interesting rooms remains for Marella to prove.
