Century Cruises Pins August 2027 Debut for Rhine Ship Century Diamond
Century Cruises will debut the 174-guest Century Diamond on the Rhine in August 2027, sailing eight-day Basel-Amsterdam voyages as the second of four planned European ships.

Itinerary
- Century Diamond's inaugural voyage is scheduled for August 2027 on the Rhine, sailing primarily eight-day Basel-Amsterdam itineraries.
- The 135-meter ship will have 76 cabins and suites across four decks, up to 174 guests, hybrid propulsion and roughly 60 percent recycled steel.
- It is the second of four new ships planned for Century Cruises' European fleet, following the Danube debut of sister ship Century Star.
Century Cruises has scheduled the inaugural voyage of the Century Diamond, the second ship in its new European river fleet, for August 2027, with the vessel based on the Rhine sailing primarily eight-day voyages between Basel and Amsterdam.
The announcement follows the inaugural voyage of the Century Star, the first ship in the new generation, on the Danube. The Century Diamond is the second of four new ships planned for the company's European fleet — a build-out that signals a sustained capacity commitment to a market where river cruise inventory is sold largely through travel advisors and tour operators with long booking windows.
The ship in numbers
The 135-meter vessel will carry 76 cabins and suites across four decks, accommodating up to 174 guests. Century Cruises will equip the ship with hybrid propulsion and build it using approximately 60 percent recycled steel — specifications the operator can use to position the product with sustainability-focused sellers and corporate programs that increasingly demand emissions data from suppliers.
Select sailings will extend beyond the traditional Rhine itinerary to other waterways in the company's European program, giving sellers a broader portfolio from a single operator without switching suppliers.
A positioning built on two river systems
The design follows what the company calls its "Rivers Intertwined" philosophy, linking its heritage on China's Yangtze River with Europe's waterways. The main restaurant will draw inspiration from Germany's Black Forest with nods to the brand's Chinese roots. The lounge will be modeled on a traditional Viennese coffee house and feature artwork inspired by the company's Asian origins.
"Thomas (Rooch) and the team at Century One in Basel have brought our vision for 'Rivers Intertwined' to life," said David Fredericks, president and general manager, The Americas, Century Cruises.
Fredericks said the European ships were designed specifically for North American and European travelers, with strong European influences throughout public spaces and staterooms alongside reminders of the brand's Asian heritage. The culinary program will include regional foods, local wines and beers from visited destinations — plus one Chinese dish on the menu reflecting the company's Yangtze origins.
"We are not trying to recreate what already exists," Fredericks added. "We are bringing two worlds together, East and West, the Yangtze and the great rivers of Europe, as Century Cruises continues its expansion around the world."
What it means for sellers
For travel sellers, the August 2027 date matters because river cruise bookings typically open 18 to 24 months ahead of departure. Advisors building 2027 Rhine programs now have a new-build option to place against established operators on the Basel-Amsterdam corridor, one of Europe's most competitive river routes.
The four-ship plan also gives Century Cruises scale across both the Danube and the Rhine — the two river markets that dominate European cruising — allowing the operator to bundle itineraries and compete for multi-river bookings that larger rivals already capture.
Century Cruises has not disclosed pricing, deck plans, or an on-sale date for the Century Diamond. With the Century Star already in service and two more ships to follow, the operator's European expansion continues through at least 2027.
