Itinerary

  1. Carnival Spirit began its 2026-27 winter season from Mobile in early November with a seven-night Bahamas/Florida cruise.
  2. A 14-night Eastern and Southern Caribbean roundtrip from Mobile departs January 17, 2027.
  3. The 15-day repositioning from Seattle lost calls at Cabo San Lucas and Puntarenas, visiting only one destination.
  4. Carnival Valor arrives in mid-May to start Carnival's first year-round Mobile program after a significant hiatus.
  5. Carnival Spirit will operate a winter season from Tampa in 2027-28.

The Carnival Spirit is back in Mobile, Alabama, kicking off its 2026-27 winter season from the Gulf Coast homeport after a summer deployment in Alaska.

The vessel's first sailing of the season was a seven-night cruise to the Bahamas and Florida, calling at Key West, Half Moon Cay and Celebration Key — Carnival's new private destination in the Bahamas. The winter program that follows is a series of Caribbean, Bahamas and Florida itineraries, anchored by a 14-night roundtrip from Mobile on January 17, 2027. That longer voyage reaches the Eastern and Southern Caribbean, with calls including Turks & Caicos, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Aruba, Curaçao and Jamaica.

For Mobile, the season matters because it's a transition. Carnival has no return to Mobile scheduled for the Spirit after this winter, and the ship will reposition to Seattle in April for another Alaska summer.

What happened on the repositioning?

The Spirit's 15-day voyage from Seattle to Mobile did not go smoothly. Technical problems delayed the departure from Seattle, which forced the cancellation of a scheduled visit to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. A call at Puntarenas, Costa Rica, was then dropped because of Hurricane Trudy. The ship ended up visiting only one destination across the entire crossing.

That's a reminder of the operational risk baked into long repositionings (one-way voyages that move a ship between seasonal homeports). Missed ports mean itinerary value the line has to manage through compensation or goodwill, and this crossing burned through most of its port schedule before the ship ever reached Alabama.

Who takes over in Mobile?

The Carnival Valor will assume the Spirit's itineraries from Mobile starting in mid-May, launching Carnival's first year-round program in the port after a significant hiatus. The Valor is the larger of the two ships and will sail a series of six- to 14-night cruises to the Caribbean and the Bahamas.

The move makes Mobile a permanent deployment rather than a seasonal one, which changes the port's revenue base from a winter-only cruise calendar to full-year passenger throughput. Year-round operations give the port and its surrounding travel sellers a steadier booking pattern to sell against.

Where do the ships go next?

The Valor's shift to Mobile empties its own berth in Tampa, and Carnival is filling it with the Spirit. The 2,124-guest vessel will operate a winter season from Tampa in 2027-28, keeping the ship in warm-weather Gulf deployments rather than returning it to Mobile.

In short: Mobile gets a bigger ship and a year-round calendar, Tampa inherits the Spirit, and the Alaska-to-Alabama crossing that delivered the ship south cost Carnival nearly every port call along the way. The Spirit's current Mobile season, capped by that 14-night Caribbean roundtrip in January 2027, will be its last from Alabama for now.
