Carnival Luminosa Departs San Francisco on 18-Night Japan Voyage
Carnival Luminosa left San Francisco Sept. 20 on an 18-night Japan cruise, opening a three-part repositioning to Brisbane with sailings through April 2027.

Itinerary
- Carnival Luminosa departed San Francisco September 20, 2026, on an 18-night transpacific cruise to Tokyo via Alaska and Japan.
- The sailing is the first of three repositioning legs ending in Brisbane in mid-December 2026.
- From Brisbane, the ship offers three- to 14-night Queensland and South Pacific cruises through April 2027 before returning to San Francisco.
Carnival Cruise Line has launched one of its longest sailings of the year: the Carnival Luminosa departed San Francisco on September 20, 2026, on an 18-night transpacific cruise that ends in Tokyo.
The itinerary covers seven destinations. After calls at Ketchikan and Icy Strait Point, plus scenic cruising at Hubbard Glacier, the ship spends eight days crossing the Pacific before arriving in Japan. Scheduled ports include Otaru, Aomori, Shimizu and Kobe.
For sellers of long-haul and exotic itineraries, the voyage opens a rare Carnival product at the edge of the brand's traditional short-cruise model — an 18-night positioning sailing that can be sold as a destination cruise in its own right rather than a ferry move.
The Tokyo arrival is only the first stage. The sailing forms part of a three-part repositioning that relocates the 2009-built ship to Australia. A 14-night follow-up cruise to Southeast Asia and the Far East calls in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Vietnam, ending in Singapore in late October.
The Luminosa then enters drydock before continuing to the South Pacific for the 2026-27 season. The final leg departs Singapore in late November, calls in Australia, and arrives in Brisbane in mid-December.
From Brisbane, the ship will run a series of three- to 14-night cruises to Queensland and the South Pacific islands through April 2027. That deployment gives Australian agents and international sellers a spread of short break options alongside longer regional itineraries under one homeport.
The transpacific departure also closes out the Luminosa's first homeporting season in San Francisco, which began in May 2026. During that summer, the ship operated four-night Baja California cruises alongside longer Alaska and Canada sailings. The ten-night itineraries called at Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan and Prince Rupert.
Carnival has committed to the market: after the 2026-27 Australian deployment, the Luminosa returns to San Francisco for a second summer season, keeping the West Coast homeport in the line's annual rotation.
