Itinerary

  1. Mekong Mystique enters service September 2028, joining Mekong Jewel on the Mekong River.
  2. The ship is part of a three-vessel fleet expansion Uniworld CEO Ellen Bettridge calls the brand's largest to date.
  3. The Mystique will sail the 'Timeless Wonders of Vietnam, Cambodia & the Mekong' itinerary.
  4. Design details include a two-story sundeck, floral-tiled pool and suites with arched floor-to-ceiling windows.

Uniworld Boutique River Cruises will add a second ship to the Mekong River in September 2028, when the Mekong Mystique enters service in Vietnam and Cambodia alongside the existing Mekong Jewel.

The deployment forms part of a three-ship fleet expansion that CEO Ellen Bettridge described in a recent interview with Cruise Industry News as the largest in the brand's history to date. The timeline matters for sellers of river product: Southeast Asia inventory under the Uniworld flag effectively doubles on this waterway from the autumn 2028 season onward.

What did Uniworld show?

The company released interior renderings of the Mystique rather than a completed vessel, so the visuals are design intent, not delivered product. Uniworld characterized the overall look as inviting, built around botanical motifs, rich wood and antique-inspired furnishings.

Specific design elements the brand confirmed include:

  • A lobby with wood floors and a spiral staircase.
  • Suites with arched floor-to-ceiling windows and ornate detailing.
  • Bathrooms pairing toile-style wallpaper and hand-painted botanical vanities with gilded mirrors and brass fixtures.
  • A two-story sundeck with an expansive floral-tiled pool framed by greenery, scalloped awnings and decorative ironwork, which the brand said evokes an open-air garden terrace.

Bettridge framed the reveal as an early marketing move with a long runway to launch. "We're thrilled to share a first look at the Mekong Mystique and give guests a glimpse of what's to come in 2028. The design is truly special, blending classic Indochine influences with European elegance in a way that feels both timeless and full of character," she said.

She added: "From the intricate toile wallpaper and hand-painted vanities to the floral-tiled pool framed by lush greenery, every space has its own personality, with beautiful details that make the ship feel like a destination in itself."

The takeaway: this is a preview release aimed at building advance demand, not a measured result — no capacity figures, stateroom counts or pricing were disclosed.

Where will the ship sail?

The Mystique will operate Uniworld's "Timeless Wonders of Vietnam, Cambodia & the Mekong" itinerary from September 2028. That routing matches the product the Mekong Jewel already sells, meaning the newbuild deepens supply on an established itinerary rather than opening new map coverage for the brand.

For travel advisors, the practical effect is straightforward: from late 2028, Uniworld will field two ships on one named Vietnam-Cambodia product, giving sellers more departures and cabin availability in a river market where high-end capacity is limited. No commission structures, fare ranges or booking windows were announced alongside the renderings.

The vessel joins the fleet as the second of three ships in the expansion program, with the Mekong Mystique's debut now roughly three years out.
