Swan Hellenic Launches $1,000 Antarctic Photography Program
Swan Hellenic is adding a $1,000, 10-guest photography program to nine Antarctic departures from November 2026 through March 2027, with expert coaching and Zodiac access.

Itinerary
- The program spans nine departures from Nov. 24, 2026, to March 25, 2027.
- Each sailing is capped at 10 participants at $1,000 per guest.
- Full take-up would produce $90,000 in gross program fees, a calculation rather than a sales forecast.
- Simon Ager, the inaugural instructor, leads the Nov. 24-Dec. 4, 2026, H Vega voyage, while Lauren Buchholz leads three later sailings.
- Dedicated Asia-Pacific photography sailings are planned for next summer, without announced dates or pricing.

Swan Hellenic will include its Antarctic Photography Program on nine departures from November 24, 2026, through March 25, 2027, each limited to 10 participants at $1,000 per guest.
At full take-up, the listed price would generate $10,000 in gross program fees per sailing, or $90,000 across the schedule. Those totals are arithmetic, not reported sales: the company disclosed no bookings, occupancy, operating costs or revenue share.
What is Swan Hellenic selling?
Swan Hellenic describes the offering as an “exclusive, voyage-long experience” combining professional guidance, dedicated photography opportunities, daily image feedback and editing workshops. It is aimed at enthusiastic photographers across experience levels.
Participants must bring their own camera equipment. Anyone joining editing sessions also needs a laptop or other editing device. For travel sellers, the program supplies a clearly priced upsell on nine expedition voyages rather than a separate destination package. The capacity limit also matters commercially: only 10 guests can take part on any sailing, so gross program revenue is capped at $10,000 per departure.
Takeaway: The offer creates a $1,000 upsell on tightly capped inventory, but the company has not disclosed actual uptake.
Who leads the photography program?
- Simon Ager, a Canadian-British photographer and the inaugural Photography Instructor, leads the “Antarctic Peninsula Odyssey,” November 24 to December 4, 2026, aboard H Vega.
- Lauren Buchholz, a landscape photographer, leads three sailings:
- “Antarctic Wonders: Roundtrip Cruise from Ushuaia,” December 4 to 13, 2026.
- “Antarctic Wonders: Roundtrip Cruise from Ushuaia,” December 13 to 22, 2026.
- “Patagonia and Wild Atlantic: Cruise to the Falkland Islands,” March 25 to April 4, 2027.
The program will also be available on five other departures:
- “Antarctic Wonders: Roundtrip Cruise from Ushuaia,” January 13 to 22, 2027.
- “Expedition to Antarctica: Weddell Sea Cruise,” January 22 to February 2, 2027.
- “Antarctic Wonders: Roundtrip Cruise from Ushuaia,” February 2 to 11, 2027.
- “Antarctic Wonders: Roundtrip Cruise from Ushuaia,” March 3 to 12, 2027.
- “Cruise to the Antarctic Circle,” March 12 to 25, 2027.
Swan Hellenic says the program will be available on those five departures but does not identify their instructors.
Takeaway: The itinerary gives sellers nine date-specific products, although five sailings still lack named faculty.
How does the onboard program work?
During suitable Zodiac operations, participants can access a dedicated Photography Zodiac with the Photography Instructor. A Zodiac is an inflatable expedition boat used for wildlife and shore excursions.
The program focuses on landscape and wildlife photography, including penguins, seals, seabirds and whales. Instruction also addresses composition, exposure and the difficulty of working in Antarctic light. Daily feedback sessions let participants review their images and receive practical guidance, while editing workshops cover post-capture work.
All activities remain subject to weather, sea and ice conditions, wildlife behavior, environmental regulations, International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators requirements, and the decisions of the captain and expedition leader.
“Antarctica is one of the most extraordinary places on Earth to photograph, but capturing its beauty and wildlife is also a matter of being in the right place at the right moment and knowing how to respond to constantly changing conditions,” said Mario Bounas, Swan Hellenic’s chief commercial officer.
Takeaway: Structured coaching strengthens the offering, but Antarctic conditions will still determine what guests can photograph.
What changes for travel sellers?
“We are also pleased to announce that dedicated photography sailings will be launching in Asia-Pacific next summer season,” Bounas added.
That is the clearest expansion signal in the announcement. It also remains a pitch: Swan Hellenic has not provided launch dates, ship assignments, prices, capacity, distribution partners or commission terms for the Asia-Pacific sailings.
Without ship passenger totals, bookings or company revenue, sellers cannot judge what the $90,000 gross-fee ceiling means for Swan Hellenic’s performance or market position. Advisers can still use the photography program to differentiate selected sailings and increase gross booking value when a customer adds the $1,000 fee. They cannot assume how that fee will be shared across the sales chain.
The next checkpoint for sellers is whether Swan Hellenic dates the Asia-Pacific sailings and shows meaningful take-up on the first nine voyages.
