Norwegian Cruise Line Beats Guidance, Lifts 2026 Outlook
Norwegian Cruise Line posted $2.9 billion in Q3 revenue, beat EBITDA guidance by $63 million, and raised its 2026 outlook while yields still fell 6.5%.

Itinerary
- Q3 2026 revenue was $2.9 billion; GAAP net income $491 million, EPS $1.07.
- Adjusted EBITDA of $937 million beat guidance of $874 million by $63 million.
- Full-year 2026 guidance raised to ~$2.55 billion Adjusted EBITDA and ~$1.70 Adjusted EPS; 2027 Net Yield growth projected at 1-2%.
- Company issued $950 million of 8.750% senior notes due 2031; net leverage stands at 5.5x with $14.8 billion net debt.
- Oceania Sirena sold (chartered back through spring 2028); Oceania Insignia sale agreed with delivery expected September 2027.
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings posted third-quarter revenue of $2.9 billion and raised its full-year 2026 guidance, with Adjusted EBITDA now expected at roughly $2.55 billion and Adjusted EPS at about $1.70. The beat was real: Adjusted EBITDA of $937 million came in $63 million above guidance, and Adjusted EPS of $1.12 cleared the $0.90 forecast by 22 cents.
The numbers still tell a turnaround story, not a victory lap. GAAP net income rose to $491 million from $419 million a year ago, on EPS of $1.07. But Net Yield (revenue per capacity day, the industry's core pricing metric) fell 6.5% as reported and 6.7% in constant currency. That's a decline, just a smaller one than guided — roughly 220 basis points better than the 8.9% drop management had forecast.
What drove the beat?
Close-in demand and onboard spend did the heavy lifting. Guests booked late and spent more once aboard, and unit costs came in lower than expected. Adjusted Net Cruise Cost excluding Fuel per Capacity Day fell 2.2% as reported, about 140 basis points better than guidance of a 0.9% decline. Gross Cruise Cost per Capacity Day held essentially flat at $301 versus $302 last year.
CEO John W. Chidsey framed it as a phase two problem. "We delivered third quarter results that came in above guidance, all while continuing to strengthen our commercial capabilities, improve operating efficiency and enhance the guest experience," he said. "As we implement the next phase of our turnaround, we are focused on sharpening Norwegian Cruise Line's brand positioning, improving marketing effectiveness and taking a more disciplined approach to revenue management as well as a prudent base-loading strategy" — loading inventory into the booking curve earlier and at disciplined prices.
The payoff, he said, is already visible: "We are seeing the early signs of progress and expect Net Yield growth of 1% to 2% in 2027, with a meaningful acceleration in the back half of the year."
What changes in the fleet and the balance sheet?
The company is pruning its Oceania fleet and fortifying liquidity in parallel:
- Sold Oceania Sirena, with a charter agreement to keep operating the vessel through spring 2028.
- Signed a memorandum of agreement to sell Oceania Insignia, with delivery to the buyer expected in September 2027.
- Issued $950 million of 8.750% senior notes due 2031 on October 15, and upsized its Revolving Loan Facility.
- Opened the six-acre Great Tides Waterpark at Great Stirrup Cay, its private island, in early September.
- Identified roughly $100 million in additional run-rate savings from guest and crew air optimization and promotional changes, phasing in through 2028.
The financing math matters for sellers watching commission risk. Total debt stood at $15.1 billion as of September 30, with net debt of $14.8 billion and Net Leverage (net debt to EBITDA) at 5.5x. Pro forma liquidity would have been $2.1 billion: about $257 million in cash and $1.8 billion of revolver availability.
CFO Mark A. Kempa said the runway is adequate. "With no significant debt maturities until 2029, we believe our existing financial resources and ongoing cash generation provide a clear path to fund our turnaround strategy and strengthen our balance sheet over time," he said. "Reducing Net Leverage remains a top priority."
How firm is the fourth quarter?
Less firm than the third. Q4 Net Yield is still guided down about 6.5% in constant currency, unchanged from prior outlook. The underlying trend improved modestly, but two operational drags offset it: the delayed delivery of Seven Seas Prestige to late December, and cancelled voyages on Seven Seas Voyager that were set to transit the Suez Canal. Q4 Adjusted Net Cruise Cost excluding Fuel is expected up 1.7%, with Adjusted EBITDA of $414 million and a 25.0% Adjusted Operational EBITDA margin.
Full-year 2026 Net Yield is now expected down approximately 4.4% in constant currency, better than prior guidance. Full-year Adjusted Net Income is projected at roughly $789 million, with an Adjusted Operational EBITDA margin of 33.7%.
What does the booked position look like?
Modestly better, still not where management wants it. The booked position for the next 12 months improved since the last earnings release but remains below the company's optimal range. For 2027, first-half pricing runs ahead of last year with the booked position below prior-year levels; second-half pricing is ahead with the booked position in line. The company is counting on the waterpark, a new marketing platform, better revenue management tools and base-loading across 2027 and 2028 sailings to build a healthier booking curve.
An 8.750% coupon on new debt is the price of a leveraged balance sheet, and a 6.5% yield decline is the price of a soft demand year. Norwegian's bet is that 2027's projected 1-2% yield growth, weighted to the back half, marks the turn.
