MSC Cruises cancelled an 11-night Southern Caribbean sailing on the MSC Poesia after what the company calls a regulatory matter forced it to scrap the voyage hours before departure from PortMiami on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

Passengers had already spent two nights onboard when they learned the cruise would not sail. MSC confirmed the cancellation in a letter issued on November 3, 2026. The letter states the company identified the issue before the ship's planned departure.

"On Sunday evening, prior to departure, a regulatory matter arose that required a resolution and unfortunately, the resources necessary to address this matter have not been available in time to meet the sailing schedule," MSC said in its statement.

The cruise line did not disclose the nature of the regulatory matter or which authority raised it.

What compensation are passengers receiving?

MSC will issue a full refund of the cruise fare and eligible prepaid purchases, including beverage, internet and dining packages. On top of the refund, the company is offering a Future Cruise Credit equal to 100 percent of the original cruise fare, redeemable toward any MSC cruise open for sale.

The credit carries one condition that matters for sellers and clients alike: passengers must confirm a new booking by November 2, 2027, or the FCC expires.

For agents, that deadline now sits inside a 12-month rebooking window, and the 100 percent credit value gives MSC a strong retention lever to keep affected passengers within its own inventory rather than losing them to competitors.

What else is MSC covering?

The compensation package extends beyond the fare. MSC is:

  • Providing complimentary Wi-Fi onboard so passengers can rearrange travel plans
  • Reimbursing eligible airline change fees
  • Covering additional transportation costs required to get guests home if they change their return travel

"We understand that the cancellation of your cruise may also impact your travel plans, and we want to help make your journey home as smooth as possible," the company said.

What was the cancelled itinerary?

The MSC Poesia was scheduled to sail roundtrip from PortMiami with six port calls across Jamaica, Belize, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica and Honduras: Ocho Rios, Belize City, Cartagena de Indias, Colón, Puerto Limón and Roatán.

MSC apologized for the disruption and acknowledged the timing compounded the disappointment. "We know how disappointing this news is, particularly after the time you already spent waiting for your vacation to begin," the company said.

The line also moved to contain safety concerns. "We want to reassure you that the health and safety of our guests and crew were never compromised," the statement added.

The bottom line for the trade: affected clients leave with a full refund plus a credit worth their entire fare, and MSC has a year to convert that credit into a rebooking.
