EVA Air’s Delhi-Taipei Flight Anchors Taiwan’s Fly-Cruise Push
Taiwan is targeting Indian travel sellers with EVA Air’s nonstop Delhi–Taipei launch from 1 December 2026 and StarDream Cruises itineraries; no bookings or sales targets were disclosed.

Itinerary
- EVA Air plans nonstop Delhi–Taipei service from 1 December 2026.
- The New Delhi event brought together six supplier partners: four Taiwanese DMOs, StarDream Cruises and EVA Air.
- Eligible international travelers can receive a complimentary half-day Taiwan transit tour, subject to flight schedules and entry and transit rules.
- CLIA data cited by TTA says more than 60% of cruise passengers return to destinations first discovered through a cruise.
- TTA disclosed no bookings, fares, sales targets or projected package revenue.
EVA Air plans to launch a nonstop Delhi–Taipei flight on 1 December 2026. That timing gives Indian travel sellers a potential fly-cruise product combining a Taiwan stay with StarDream Cruises regional itineraries. Proposed cruise itineraries can include Japan, South Korea and other parts of Northeast Asia.
The Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) presented the proposal at a recent tourism promotion event in New Delhi. Indian travel trade representatives and media attended. The event brought together six supplier partners: four Taiwanese destination management organizations (DMOs), StarDream Cruises and EVA Air.
TTA disclosed no bookings, fares, aircraft capacity, sailing dates, sales targets or projected package revenue. The six-supplier roster gives TTA a proposed trade channel through four destination-management companies, an airline and a cruise operator. It did not name participating Indian agencies or define their commercial roles.
Accordingly, the initiative gives Indian agencies a distribution concept, not measured demand: they could combine air travel, a Taiwan stay and a regional cruise into one multi-country holiday.
What changes for Indian travel sellers?
The nonstop route gives Indian travelers direct access to Taiwan and could support packages combining a destination stay with cruise departures serving destinations such as Japan and South Korea. TTA wants airlines, cruise operators and Indian travel companies to collaborate around those products.
- Taiwan component: cultural attractions, cities, cuisine and natural landscapes.
- Cruise component: multi-destination itineraries across Northeast Asia.
- Target customers: families, couples and premium travelers seeking experience-led international holidays.
For Indian agencies, combining air, stay and cruise could widen the revenue basket across airline, destination-stay and cruise sales. That differentiates a multi-country product from a standalone Taiwan trip. TTA announced no commission, margin-sharing or agency-contract terms and supplied no premium-pricing evidence.
Paul Shih, director of the TTA Singapore Office, said India offers significant untapped potential. Cruise tourism can introduce visitors to Taiwan while extending their trips across Northeast Asia, he said.
Shih said: “With EVA Air’s direct Taipei–Delhi service commencing in December, we are keen to work with our airline, cruise and travel trade partners to make Taiwan more accessible and strengthen its position as both a destination in its own right and a gateway to wider regional experiences.”
Naresh Rawal, StarDream Cruises’ senior vice president for India and the Middle East, called India a growth opportunity for the cruise industry, supported by an outbound market increasingly interested in distinctive international holidays.
He said the direct flight would create an opportunity to develop Taiwan as a gateway for Indian fly-cruise travelers combining a destination stay with cruises across Japan, South Korea and other parts of Northeast Asia.
No measured sales yet. Neither TTA’s market-potential claim nor StarDream’s growth thesis has a disclosed conversion, booking or market-share benchmark.
Does cruise tourism translate into local revenue?
Shih also presented cruise tourism’s wider economic contribution, citing the World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC’s) Cruising for Impact report. The report says cruise-related expenditure supports local businesses, tour operators, transport providers, restaurants, retailers and artisans.
The report also cites Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) data showing that more than 60% of cruise passengers return to destinations they first discovered through a cruise. TTA’s announcement provides no Taiwan-specific spending total, visitor rate or measurement period, so the figure cannot become a forecast for Taiwanese bookings.
TTA’s commercial argument links cruise spending to wider local business revenue and repeat destination discovery. It also positions Taiwan both as a destination in its own right and a gateway to Northeast Asia. Neither cited dataset quantifies how much value Indian fly-cruise packages would generate.
What do transit tours add?
TTA separately offers eligible international travelers a complimentary half-day transit tour, subject to flight schedules and applicable entry and transit requirements. Passengers can join a guided bus tour or explore independently, encountering local culture, neighborhoods and Taiwanese cuisine during connections.
For Indian travel sellers, the service adds a destination experience to connecting itineraries. Because it is complimentary, it creates no disclosed tour-fee stream; TTA also announced no partner list, uptake target or agency sales arrangement.
The next test is commercial execution: TTA will need to convert the six-supplier New Delhi event into dated packages with Indian travel companies. EVA Air will also need to launch the planned nonstop service on 1 December 2026. Until bookings, package pricing, sailing schedules and revenue appear, the initiative has a proposed route and supplier roster, but no measured sales result.
