Discover Dominica Authority has launched a destination training course on Online Travel Training's U.S. and UK platforms, aiming to expand the pool of advisors who can confidently sell the island in its key source markets.
The self-paced course is live now for travel professionals in the United States and United Kingdom, with launches on OTT's France and Germany platforms expected soon. Discover Dominica plans to promote the course to trade professionals across the U.S., UK and Canada.
The move is a distribution play, not a marketing one: the tourism authority is effectively recruiting and certifying sellers, betting that trained advisors will convert more bookings than generic awareness campaigns.
What does the course cover?
The training covers Dominica's seven tourism pillars:
- Adventure
- Health and Wellness
- Romance
- Aqua
- Culture/Events and Entertainment
- Agro
- Kalinago — the last remaining indigenous pre-Columbian people in the Caribbean, directly descended from the region's original inhabitants
Course content positions the island against traditional Caribbean destinations through rainforest excursions, rivers and waterfalls, volcanic landscapes, diving and marine encounters, wellness offerings, and cultural and community-based experiences. Advisors who finish the modules can use the material to build personalized itineraries around client interests.
Those who complete the course receive a Certificate of Completion recognizing their destination knowledge and readiness to sell Dominica.
Why advisors matter to Dominica
CEO Marva Williams framed the initiative in terms of the trade's distribution power. "Travel advisors are important partners in connecting travelers with Dominica, particularly in our key source markets," Williams said in a press statement. "This new course allows us to deepen their knowledge of the destination while expanding our reach among travel professionals who can confidently recommend Dominica to their clients."
The rollout forms part of a broader strategy by the tourism authority to strengthen travel trade education and widen its network of trained sellers across key international markets.
What comes next
The immediate expansion targets OTT's France and Germany platforms, which would extend Dominica's trained-seller base into continental Europe. For now, the authority has disclosed no completion targets, advisor enrollment numbers or budget figures — making the course's trade impact measurable only once OTT publishes uptake data or Dominica reports trained-seller growth.
