Costa Cruises will hand its pricing, revenue management, itinerary planning and transportation units to Francesco Muglia, SVP and chief commercial officer, effective November 1, 2026 — a consolidation that puts the levers controlling both ticket yield and product design under one commercial executive.

The Carnivale Group-owned Italian line already charged Muglia with global marketing, direct sales and its commercial business units. The reorganization adds the functions that determine what a Costa cruise costs, where it sails and how guests reach the ship.

For travel sellers, the move concentrates pricing and distribution authority in a single commercial structure. Decisions on rate changes, itinerary deployment and sales strategy will now flow through one chain of command rather than parallel departments.

What does the change mean operationally?

Costa framed the reorganization around speed. The company said the integrated structure will let it respond to market dynamics more quickly, make faster decisions and manage guest value across the entire customer journey, from pre-cruise planning through the voyage itself.

Muglia said the redesign reflects how the product is actually built.

"For us, a cruise begins long before embarkation: with itinerary planning, pricing decisions and the development of the overall offering," Muglia said. "An integrated approach to these key levers will allow us to accelerate the evolution of our product and offer our guests increasingly distinctive and personalized experiences."

The statement ties pricing decisions directly to product development — a linkage that revenue teams at competing lines typically manage through separate silos, with itinerary planning often sitting outside the commercial organization entirely.

Who gains responsibility below Muglia?

Daniel Caprile, vice president of pricing and revenue management, itinerary and transportation, will add onboard revenues to his portfolio, reporting to Muglia. That places onboard spend — historically a distinct profit center run with separate targets — under the same leadership as ticket pricing and deployment.

The combination matters for revenue mix. Cruise lines earn a substantial share of total revenue from onboard purchases, and aligning those decisions with pre-cruise pricing gives Costa a single view of guest value rather than two competing optimization targets.

How does the reorganization fit Costa's product strategy?

Costa said the change supports its Sea & Land Wonder Platform, the company's model that combines destinations, itineraries, shoreside experiences and onboard moments into one vision of the holiday.

The platform concept, and now the org chart behind it, treats the cruise as a single integrated product rather than a sailing plus optional extras. Itinerary planning, pricing, shore programming and onboard revenue all feed the same margin calculation under the new structure.

The reorganization takes effect November 1, 2026, giving Costa's commercial organization one year to align reporting lines, planning cycles and revenue targets ahead of the following deployment season. Trade partners should expect consolidated commercial contacts and pricing signals from Muglia's organization once the structure is live.
